First Half Ending: Summer is Coming!

As the 121st session of the General Assembly nears the end of it's first half, both the House and Senate bills- H. 4037 and S. 672- that would legalize medical marijuana are receiving hearings Tuesday and Wednesday! This is a major development, as it brings our state that much closer to being the first medical marijuana state in and a model for the South.
  • Tuesday, May 19, 2:30 P.M.
    Blatt Building, Room 427
House Medical, Military, Public and Municipal Affairs Committee

Passing out of subcommittee on a 3-2 vote, this hearing is our first opportunity to persuade our legislators to bring the Medical Marijuana Program Act to the House floor for a vote. Issues that remain with this bill include the need for a self-funding mechanism and distinguishing what makes a "licensed dispensary agent" different from a dispensary employee.

  • Wednesday, May 20, 9:00 A.M.
    Gressette Building, Room 209
    Senate Medical Affairs Subcommittee

The companion bill to H. 4037, S. 672, shall receive its first subcommittee hearing. Because these bills are the same, the issues raised in the House committee hearing demand addressing in the Senate as well.
Getting these bills through these committees is of critical importance. Our legislators have been and are listening. They are giving the Medical Marijuana Program Act the serious consideration it deserves and that we have demanded. The work of so many advocates has brought us this far; and, we are closer than ever to making a historic achievement for our citizens. Therefore, we are asking for anyone who supports the legalization of medical marijuana, be you potential patient or just a supporter, to come to the Statehouse grounds to show your support and to speak with your legislator.

Sincerely,
Wayne Borders
Executive Director & President
