Last week was a blast, we are now less than two weeks away from competition! Our first district event starts on March 10th in Columbus, GA. Here's what we've been up to in the meantime.

Bag-and-Tag Party

Last Tuesday evening, our team showcased the finished FRC robot and presented to family, friends and even our principal, Mr. Guiney, about G3’s accomplishments this season. After a short poll of the audience judged by applause, “Dragon Queen” (inspired by our eternal love of Dairy Queen) has become the official name of our 2016 competition robot! Washington High School students, who have worked tirelessly at Grady with the help and guidance of our mentors, were also able to demonstrate their robot. Last but not least, Steffen Martin and Gabriel Kupersmith, who brought the most donations to the G3 GoFundMe, pie'd Mr. Nichols and Anupam directly onto their faces as a prize. Check out our Facebook page for a video!

GE Day

On February 24th, we attended the annual GE Day, a celebration of GE-sponsored students and mentors involvement in FIRST, for GE Engineering Week. Many robotics teams from around the area (Walton, Fernbank, and Lithia Springs, and more) were also present at this engaging, thoughtful event. Sajjad Ali, G3's CEO, participated in a panel discussion on how mentors contribute to our learning experience through FIRST. Following this panel, GE engineers, some of whom were FIRST alumni, walked around and spoke with us about our robot and program. It was an all around great experience, and we can’t wait to go next year.

Rising 9th Grade Night

G3 set up a table at Grady’s annual Rising 9th Grade Night last Wednesday in the theater lobby. Several eighth graders from our main feeder, Inman Middle School, showed up and learned about the numerous clubs, sports, and organizations that Grady offers (the best, of course, being G3 Robotics). As one of the most crowded tables at the event, we informed the students and their parents about the various goals and missions of our team. We also demonstrated our technical capabilities first-hand by displaying the 2016 Stronghold bot as well as the 2013 Ultimate Ascent bot, which engaged students with flying frisbees. Given the large amount of interest for the team, we eagerly anticipate their arrival next year.

Thank you everyone for your fantastic support so far, we truly appreciate every single donation that helped complete our $10K GoFundMe Campaign. We said mentors would be pied, and they certainly were! The fundraiser composed only a fraction of our $50,000 budget for materials, equipment, travel scholarships, event registration and travel scholarships for team members in need. Would you or your company be interested in helping us meet these needs?
